Précision sur_l'état :	Polychromie d'origine sous trois repeints. Polychromie reprise au 19e siècle. Intervention le 18/01/2007, visite, S. Vincent
Précision_sur la protection :	Il existe seulement trois groupes sculptés protégés en Isère : un de l'époque médiévale, un du 16e siècle et un du 18e siècle. Celui de Chimilin peut être daté de la fin du 16e s. Le traitement particulier de la chevelure du Christ, ramassée et raide a été observé sur une Pieta de Venosc contemporaine. La qualité de l'oeuvre vient aussi du rendu de l'anatomie (thorax, côtes notamment) par un parti-pris esthétisant, et du caractère singulier du visage de la Vierge, assez rond et poupin.
